Wire Cloth / Wire Mesh

Square / Plain Weave Wire Mesh

Square / Plain weave has its origins in braiding. With this weave, the material is interwoven. Each warp wire and each shute wire pass over one and under the next adjacent wire. Wires are crimped in the weaving operation. There are a number of ways of doing this, making the family of plain weaves extremely diverse with respect to appearance and structure.

There are a number of types of plain mesh characterized by different porosity ranges, combinations of opening sizes, and % open area; these include market grade wire mesh, tensile bolting cloth (also known as square mesh bolting cloth), and mill grade. Each has different properties that make them suitable for specific tasks. See information on each below. One of our wire mesh specialists can assist in determining the right mesh for your application.

Gerard Daniel is a square weave wire mesh manufacturer, with over 70 years of wire mesh expertise. We have the broadest range of wire cloth in inventory in the United States, with 5,000 different types of wire mesh in stock from multiple stocking warehouses in North America. 3,000 to 4,000 types are available to cut to size for same-day shipping.

Most material in stock is 48” wide by hundreds of feet long; other sizes are available on request. We can slit rolls down to 1/4” usually within a few days. We also carry DFARS stock in standard stainless alloys. We can laser-cut in small quantities to any shape within a week depending on material availability, and we can stamp high volume custom shapes pending tooling lead time.

And if we don’t have exactly what you need, or you need a domestic source throughout your supply chain, we can weave custom wire mesh to your specifications.

Quality second to none

Since we use millions of square feet of our own wire mesh in the filtration and separation products we provide, we know about good quality wire mesh. Whether we source your mesh or weave it ourselves, you can rest assured you’ll get the highest repeatable performance in the mesh from our warehouse.

We welcome inquiries and sample requests.

Wire cloth with a mesh count the same in both directions. Plain Square Mesh is the most common weave with the same number and diameter of warp and shute wires woven in a simple over and under pattern. Creates maximum weaving stability and the same mesh count in both directions.

DETAILS

Mesh Count:
¾# to 508#

Open Area (Porosity):
11.7% - 87.8%

DATA SHEET

This cloth is woven with mesh counts equal in both directions, the same as in plain square mesh. However, in a square twilled weave, each warp wire and each shute wire pass successively over two and under the next adjacent pair of wires. With the twilled weave pattern, the warp wires are not as heavily deformed and physically stressed as in the case of the plain weave. The strength of this design is its suitability for applications that are subject to high levels of mechanical stress.

Mesh Count:
270# to 500#

Open Area (Porosity):

DATA SHEET

These are the most commonly used sizes of industrial wire cloth. They represent the best balance of mesh count and wire diameter to create the most uniform weave. For a full list of all Plain Square mesh products.

Square Mesh Bolting Cloth, also known as Tensile Bolting Cloth, is stainless steel mesh woven in plain weave construction using a small wire diameter to provide a high percentage open area.

DETAILS

Mesh Count:
